Ice House script
Bamff Ice House is located in North East Perthshire and is thought to date back to the 18th century Through the unassuming entrance, the ice house is accessed through a long low tunnel Bamff ice house has an interesting structure, having a domed ceiling and circular in shape For this particular field recording trip a higher fidelity approach was sought, using a MacBook Pro, an Mbox mini audio interface, an MM 1 test microphone and a Bose Soundlink mini for the sound source The software utilised was Apple's Impulse Response Utility B-format recording was used, utilising a W, X, Y configuration, but using mono sources for each playback... So repositioning of the microphone and playback system for each recording As well as B-format, stereo and mono recordings were also taken on site The stereo recordings are used later to audition various sound sources The audition of these sound sources can be heard at the end of this film Upon returning to the studio the recorded signals are de-convolved, the process of taking a relatively long 10 second sine sweep signal and converting it into a short transient signal for use in Apple's Sound Designer reverb plugin The reverb signature is auditioned using a variety of sources, including snare drum, woodblock, male shout and female shout
